When that Law was removed (there are only 5 Church Commandments now) we continued to eat fish, I guess because we liked it. Although I have often joked about all those poor souls in hell who ate meat on Friday. The Church is 2000 years old and I often told my religion classes that the humanity of the Church has created a lot of confusing and conflicting anomalies. Bottom line give man an opportunity and he will screw it up over time. As it turns out fish is good for you, nearly all the apostles were fishermen and fish is a large part of the Hebrew diet which is the origination of Christianity, Christ was the most famous Jew. So in reality despite all the political intrigue I believe it was a custom that took hold and eventually became a dietary ritual that became law that eventually changed as all things do with time. I still generally try to not eat meat on any Friday, not just Lent. The reality is that the requirement to not eat meat is only for Ash Wednesday, the first day of the Lenten calendar, and Good Friday. Although many Catholics will voluntarily avoid meat on Fridays.Joe Mulitschnoreply@blogger.com
