I got this in an email and I thought you might like to see it. It seems to be more about women, but I can relate to a bunch of this stuff.
Julie Andrews - It takes a good sense of humor to grow old.....
It wouldn't be funny if it wasn’t so true... Julie Andrews turned 69.
To commemorate her 69th birthday on October 1, actress/vocalist, Julie Andrews made a special appearance at Manhattan’s Radio City Music Hall for the benefit of the AARP. One of the musical numbers she performed was "My Favorite Things" from the legendary movie "Sound Of Music." Here are the actual lyrics she used:
Maalox and nose drops and needles for knitting,
Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings,
Bundles of magazines tied up in string,
These are a few of my favourite things.
Cadillac's and cataracts, and hearing aids and glasses,
Polident and Fixodent and false teeth and glasses,
Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings,
These are a few of my favourite things.
When the pipes leak,
When the bones creak,
When the knees go bad,
I simply remember my favourite things,
And then I don't feel so bad.
Hot tea and crumpets and corn pads for bunions,
No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions,
Bathrobes and heating pads and hot meals they bring,
These are a few of my favourite things.
Back pains, confused brains, and no need for sinnin',
Thin bones and fractures and hair that is thinnin',
And we won't mention our short, shrunken frames,
When we remember our favourite things.
When the joints ache,
When the hips break,
When the eyes grow dim,
Then I remember the great life I've had,
And then I don't feel so bad.
Ms. Andrews received a standing ovation from the crowd that lasted over four minutes and repeated encores. Please share Ms. Andrews' clever wit and humor with others who would appreciate it.
They should make this the baby boomers national anthem. I guess I don't mind growing old. It beats the alternative.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure how much I like getting old. I hate the body parts starting to shut down especially at a time when I want to use them damnit.
ReplyDeletenll and alekx - It sure does. But I think parts of me are dieing one piece at a time.
ReplyDeleteOf course I'd rather get old than die. But I'd rather stay "young" and healthy than get old. Parts dying one at a time is definitely NOT fun!
ReplyDeleteHA! I'm makin' this my new heartsong.
ReplyDeleteMST and Hot Lemon - Anyone over fifty can adopt this as their heartsong.
ReplyDeleteI'm not 50 yet but much of this is uncomfortably familiar :/
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear she is singing again. Heard she had polyps on her vocal chords which ended her career.
ReplyDeleteDo you notice if you sit in front of your computer too long that you can hardly stand. You have to kick your joints back into place???

Despite what it is not, the lyrics are clever.

Oh that Julie Andrews. Her song lyrics crack me up! She was and always will be one of the most talented women around.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the lyrics.
clew, it is true. (I love it when I rhyme.)
ReplyDeletePamela, Brother Dave set me straight on that one. But the words are still great. And, yes, I have to realign my lower legs with my upper legs, too, all the while my butt is tingling from sitting on it for so long.
Brother Dave, Thanks! I stand corrected. But the words do ring ture.
Hootergirl, I am old.
BB, I admit it. I still like The Sound of Music soundtrack. In her prime she had a seven octave vocal range. I’m not sure what that means, but I think it means she can deep throat.
I have no idea what Ms. Andrews is talking about!
ReplyDeleteGrizzbabe, of course you don't. Your to young to even have acne. But you day is coming. Give it about 30 years. You can let me know then if you know what Ms. Andrews was talking about. Of course, by then I probably won’t know how to read, or who is talking to me. But I’ll know deep down in my subconscious that you are feeling it.
