Real Navy Ranks

You real Navy guys out there will understand this.

You civilians will now know what each of the ranking insignias really mean.

On the second row, the Eagles are lovingly known as ‘Crows.’

The crossed anchors on the first three crows are Boatswain’s Mates; they know everything about paints, red-led primer, chipping and painting, polishing brass, driving the ship (helmsman), knots, brooms and swabs (mops).

The second set of crows are Chiefs, and, in this case, the insignia is that of a Quartermaster – the keeper and updater of all charts (maps) and other navigational stuff that the officers have no clue about.

The insignia under the crow lets other sailors know what job they perform.

Now ya know!!!

You’re welcome!

I always love military humor posts. I'm gonna steal this one for my collection, like the ones I posted on my page a few weeks back.

I always thought the E1-3 stripes were GREEN.

Steal away, Steve.

NavyDavy... only on airdales. White for surface types, red for snipes (below deck rates), blue for SEABEES.

How did you and the other "regular" guys feel about the men who went to Annapolis?

Love,
Janie

The officer corps start out as O1, O2 and go up. Ensign, Lieutenant Junior Grade (LTJG), then Lieutenant (LT) and so on. By the time the ring knockers reach LT, they are usually pretty good officers. The first two are all bullshit and ego. Once they learn that it is the enlisted men who run the Navy, they are alright. We are the experts in what ever the officer wants done.

The only thing missing is the permanently attached coffee cup at E-7 :-)

Jaine- Us 'Mustangs' never did/do like Academy pukes, regardless of service... Just sayin... :-)

Janie, OldNFO is a retired Navy LT who flew off carriers. He is also a mustang so he knows of the mentality of the enlisted and some of the officers toward the Ring Knockers from the Boat School.
