We lost a true American Hero. He was not well known as in Hollywood fame, but well know and respected, if not awed, by those who follow military history.
Robert Lewis (Bob) Howard (July 11, 1939 – December 23, 2009) was a highly decorated United States Army soldier and Medal of Honor recipient of the Vietnam War. He was wounded 14 times over 54 months of combat, was awarded 8 Purple Hearts, 4 Bronze Stars, and was nominated for the Medal of Honor three separate times. He was laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetary on February 22, 2010.
I wish I could have shaken his hand just once.

I am reposting, this is the best post of the day.
I found some footage of his funeral on youtube and watched it....I cried like a baby. Full military honors...it was awesome. The riderless horse always does it...and the tears come. You did a wonderful post about him and you know he's watching with approval. Someday we'll all shake his hand.
Awww ... hearing about his life and achievements made my heart feel all squishy towards him. What a fine soldier he was, and a proud Alabamian no less!
What an amazing man, wish I could have met him.
