Friday Was Work Day

Judy took of Friday from work and she, me, step-son Steven and his wife Laura loaded up and went to the new house to work on the basement apartment.  The day was spent working in the kitchen and dining area.  It was a long day with much accomplished.

The kitchen is taking shape. The stove is in and working. All the cabinets are hung and ready. The ceiling is in.  All that is left, mostly, is the flooring.  We haven't decided whether to paint the cement or lay linoleum.  I lean toward the linoleum, but Judy is thinking painting for now until we win the lottery.  Money is thigh right now.  Even the Waffle House visits are in jeopardy.

Here is Steven installing the sink and dishwasher.  This young man is amazing.  There is nothing he cannot do in a home.  He has closed in and built the area for the automatic garage door, redone the electric stuff on the main floor, hung the lighting and fans, installed most of the stuff in the basement and continues to impress me.  And he is so quite and laid-back.  He doesn't brag, doesn't cuss or drink (you can tell I didn't have much of an influence on his upbringing.) and is just an all-around great guy.  I am truly blessed with great step-kids, an awesome daughter and son-in-law, and the worlds greatest grand kids.  Now if I could only win the lottery, life would be perfect.

This it the thing that kills me.  My back will not let me stand and reach like this for long.  Judy is the bearer of all the hard work.  She, too, is amazing.  And the good thing???  She loves doing this stuff.  She is in love with house projects.  Her next project, when we finish this and move in, is to build a deck outside our entrance.  Now that I can help her with, if she lets me.

Enough for now.  Got to go stretch out on the floor to ease the back pain.  Then I'm heading out to Rome, GA, to sit with Marni and Bug and watch J-Man in a high school band competition.  It's gonna be cold as a mother-in-law's heart, but I have a good coat so all is well.  The best part is I get to see the grand-kids after about a three week absences (unheard of in our life.)

Later, peeps!

My Long Weekend That Will End On Wednesday

Ain’t been ‘round much lately. I was on another dog run this weekend to Carmel, Menands, and Niskayuna, NY. For some reason this was a very tiring trip and I had to stop a little over a hundred miles before my usual rest stop in Winchester, VA. I was in Harrisburg, PA, and had no time to do my usual nude blogging before I fell asleep. When I got home around 8:00 p.m. I fell asleep in my chair. I didn’t even hook up the pc until a few minutes ago.

This morning Judy and I picked up Marni and the grandkids and headed out to here:

The day was beautiful. No rain, for a change, and the temp was in the high eighties and low nineties with a slight breeze. Though it was getting pretty hot when we left.

Tomorrow I will be taking my sister to the doctor, then meeting Judy and the grandkids at the lake for some afternoon boating and swimming. Probably the same thing tomorrow. Love the summer time.

I will be checking on you peeps along the way, but I may not post anything until later on in the week. Just don’t give up on me and leave. I’m here, just busy.

AGAIN???? Damn!!!

I’m on the road again tonight for an emergency dog transport to NY. Our shelters up there are almost out of dogs and need a few fast. I am driving all that way for six dogs - one a Great Dane. Dudes, that is a big fucking dog. He may have to just lay in the back because we don’t have a cage large enough for him.

The thing is, this is my fourth weekend trip in a row and five out of seven weekends. My butt is not only getting flatter, but it’s getting number, too. Anyone care to give it a massage?

But mostly I haven't seen the grandkids in over a month, and that is definitely not a good thing. I need those little shits in my life.

Anytrip, I’ll check in and read your stuff when I get to the motel on Friday night. May not post or comment, but I will read. So don’t think I’m ignoring you just because I am. By the time I get to the motel, eat, get naked and comfortable, I’m too tired to post. But I will lurk till I fall asleep.

Later, peeps!

A Day Without Snow and Rain - Almost

Woke up this morning to sunshine. No rain, no snow, no freezing weather! Just a pretty morning. Strange feeling! But since we have the grandkids, we felt even more the urge to go out among the world and commingle. So the first trip (and no day can start without it) was to the Waffle House to fortify our bodies for the impending day.

While there we talk about all the options and decided that the zoo would be a great place to go. The Grant Park (not named after that Northern Interloper, U.S. Grant but for a railroad magnate, Lemuel P. Grant) has two major attractions; the Atlanta Zoo and the Cyclorama, a huge circular painting depicting the Battle of Atlanta.

So, in 50 degree, chilly, windy weather, off we go.

This is Judy and the kids walking into the park.

This is me and my two favorite ladies, Bug on the left and Judy.

Bug and J-Man goofing off in front of the Pink Flamingos.

There has to be someone different in every crowd - even in nature.

We visited an aviary full of parakeets. These two were actually kissing and there was the beginnings of a nest being built.

Then we saw a variety of animals, but most were kept inside. I didn’t get pictures of the monkey house, the big cat house or the reptile house, except for the black mamba. Next time!

Judy on the phone with an old colleague who is moving back to Georgia with her job, and yours truly outside the gorilla exhibit.

J-Man with one of his favorite creatures, the Orangutan.

The Atlanta Zoon is fortunate to have a collection of Panda’s from China.
We pay almost 2.5 million a year for each of them.
They also have two babies that will be (must be) shipped back to China soon.

Then there is the petting zoo.

But the highlight of the day was the Merry-Go-Round.

After the ride began moving, it was like a wild ride for me.
YIPPEEEEEE!

We then went to the Cyclorama ( no pictures - their rules).

Then finished up the day with a fun dinner at a Japanese restaurant (fire, knife tricks and all.)

Trust me, peeps, there are many more pictures to show you, but this is enough. We did dodge a few minor drizzles and was in the Cyclorama when the big rain came, but the day was just perfect. I love being with my little buddies and seeing things thought their eyes.

I now return you to you daily blog readings.

Coffey Out!

They See It How It Is

Last night, my grandkids and I were sitting in the den and I said to them, 'I never want to live in a vegetative state, dependent on some machine and fluids from a bottle. If that ever happens, just pull the plug.'

They got up, unplugged the Computer, and threw out my beer.

They are SO on my shit list ....

Difference Between Grandpas and Grandmas

(Bug, J-Man, & PawPaw on Brasstown Bald the highest point in GA, Sept 27, 2009)

The Joke:

Have you ever wondered what the difference between Grandmothers and Grandfathers is?

A friend, who worked away from home all week, always made a special effort with his family on the weekends.

Every Sunday morning he would take his 7-year old granddaughter out for a drive in the car for some bonding time - just he and his granddaughter.

One particular Sunday however, he had a bad cold and really didn't feel like being up at all. Luckily, his wife came to the rescue and said that she would take their granddaughter out.

When they returned, the little girl anxiously ran upstairs to see her Grandfather.

'Well, did you enjoy your ride with grandma?'

'Oh yes, Papa' the girl replied, and do you know what? We didn't see a single dumb bastard, dip shit or horse's ass anywhere we went today!'

Almost brings a tear to your eye, doesn't it?

The Truth:

This is so true around the Coffeypot house hold, too. Once I was taking the grandkids someplace and they were climbing into the back seat. The first thing I always do is make sure they are buckled up. But they always buckle the lap belt but put the shoulder strap behind them. So I always say, “Chest!” and they know to pull the belt back across their chest.

So this time we are getting settled in for our trip and I am watching them in the rearview mirror. Sure enough, they slide the belt behind their shoulder.

So I ask them, “Okay! What’s the first thing I say when y’all get in the car.”

J-Man says, “Shut Up!”

The little shit would have gotten the crap beat out of him, but I was laughing to hard to even drive, much less give him the thrashing he deserved. He still lives.

My Day With The Grandkids - With 6 Days To Go

The grandkids are saying with us through the new years. They are always a treat and they find great ways to entertain themselves because we (me) are to old to try and keep up with them.

J-Man plays computer games. Bug reads and plays with MeMaw (Judy.) Judy has been their best play pal since they were old enough to have their first diaper changed.

So today, with the temperature in the 30’s and a slight breeze, the little shits - uh - darlings wanted to go for a walk. It was so enjoyable with our pink cheeks and snotty noses. We did about 2 miles thought the woods and around the subdivision before frostbite drove us back home.

But I did get to enjoy the fruits of my teachings when Bug flipped my ear, which was frozen solid. Note to self. Don’t tell them anything else about my childhood living in squalor and in desperate needs of ways to entertain our selves.

However one of the more positive things they do is make up games and plays and stuff. Aggravates the shit out of me…uh I love the way their minds play out.

So today the little shits, uh, kiddies decided to try public service as a means of torturing…I mean entertaining themselves.

So for lunch and dinner the kiddies opened a restaurant, Mario’s Game Lounge.

J-Man, the self titled Technical Specialist, went on the pc made up and printed out menus.

Bug got a little note book and goes to each of us and takes our order.

In the kitchen the orders are hanging by clothes pins from the cabinets like a short order restaurant.

I had a choice of hamburgers, tacos, salad, spaghetti, grilled cheese, grilled ham and cheese with a dessert of pecan or sweet potato pie or rice krispies balls.

When we sat at the table, Bug brings us our plates (and a little chime on the oven goes off every few minutes signifying another meal is ready to serve) and she brings us utensils, napkins, salt and pepper or any other condiment we might need.

The chef, Judy, served what ever she made regardless of the order. She loves Gordon Ramsey and his culinary management.

For example, off the menu I ordered a taco and got an empty taco shell. I ordered a cheeseburger and got a stale bun with spaghetti sauce for hamburger meat covered with diced cheese. I would have been better off ordering spaghetti from the start, cause that’s what I got. That’s all Chef Judy made.

I don’t see a long longevity for Mario’s Game Lounge. But the kiddies will live to annoy…entertain us again. After all, we have them for 6 more days.

But I have to say, begrudgely, it was fun.
