Thoughts to Ponder

Although I have my beliefs, I am not an overly religious man. But the list below raises a good point. That is, even with the worst parts of us showing, we can still make a positive difference. Even if you don't believe in God, the principal is still the same.

It also reminds me of the time the crowd was going to stone the prostitute and Jesus step in and said, “Let those without sin cast the first stone.” A few seconds later a huge rock came flying through the air and squashed the prostitute. The crow gasps and Jesus looked around and just stood the shaking his head. Finally He said, “Boy, mom, sometimes you really piss me off.”

However, the next time you feel like GOD can't use you, just remember...
Noah was a drunk
Abraham was too old
Isaac was a daydreamer
Jacob was a liar
Leah was ugly
Joseph was abused
Moses had a stuttering problem
Gideon was afraid
Samson had long hair and was a womanizer
Rahab was a prostitute
Jeremiah and Timothy were too young
David had an affair and was a murderer
Elijah was suicidal
Jonah ran from God
Naomi was a widow
Job went bankrupt
Peter denied Christ
The Disciples fell asleep while praying
Martha worried about everything
The Samaritan woman was divorced, more than once
Zaccheus was too small
Paul was too religious
Timothy had an ulcer
Lazarus was dead!
And Don't forget - Jesus Helped 'em all!!!!

Now! No more excuses! God can use you to your full potential.
Besides you aren't the message, you are just the messenger.
In the Circle of God's love, God's waiting to use your full potential.

1. God wants spiritual fruit, not religious nuts.
2. Dear God, I have a problem, it's Me.
3. There is no key to happiness. The door is always open.
4. Silence is often misinterpreted but never misquoted.
5. Do the math... count your blessings.
6. Faith is the ability to not panic.
7. If you worry, you didn't pray. If you pray, don't worry.
8. As a child of God, prayer is kind of like calling home everyday.
9. Blessed are the flexible for they shall not be bent out of shape.
10. The most important things in your house are the people.
11. When we get tangled up in our problems, be still. God wants us to be still so He can untangle the knot.
12. A grudge is a heavy thing to carry.
13. He who dies with the most toys is still dead.

Think on these and maybe they will make some of the decision you have to make in life a little easier. If not, don’t blame me. I’m just acting as a messenger. Look into a mirror to see if the problem lies there.

Of all of this post, I like the first paragraph the best. The principal is the most important part, and the part which often gets lost. To quote John Wesley -

“Do all the good you can,
By all the means you can,
In all the ways you can,
In all the places you can,
At all the times you can,
To all the people you can,
As long as ever you can.”

Great Quote! Just like the Army's "Be All You Can Be."

A quiet Saturday morning I am out blog walking and I land here. All I can say is thank you for writing that.

I am a faithful person, but have made many many mistakes along the way. Somedays I do not put as much faith in God as I should. Thank you for reminding me!

Great post, well worth the read.

But your horse might need to have its legs adjusted down a bit.

lorelai, thanks for stopping by. Welcome anytime. I'll add you to my blog role, too. See if we can be frequent visitors.

I don't put as much faith in Him as I should. I put more faith in me and my decisions, since I am the one who has to pay for my fuckups.

MST, I'm glad you enjoyed the read.

rwa, thank you. I am glad that it helped you in some small way. I take it as a compliment that you thought so.

As a child of God, I have been down many difficult roads. If we are followers of Jesus, we are misunderstood, but then, He said we would be. I am so amazed at those of us who forget "do not judge or you will be judged by the same measure" (scary thought!)
But I am also amazed at the people who think it is all about them. I personally find it freeing that "all fall short of the glory of God" so that I don't ever have to try and measure up. I have tried, and it doesn't work that way. I can't do anything to earn His love. He just loves. That is His nature. And the greatest command is not- get as much stuff as your neighbor, make sure you are a little better than your neighbor, or even, drag your neighbor to church. It is love your neighbor as you love yourself. Enough said.

I'm reminded of one of my favorite proverbs. Keep thy heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life.

Religion in the Fertile Crescent. It's amazing that while walking through the International Zone in Baghdad you can see signs from all the world's faiths. There are countless services for every religion I can think of offered out here. I can't imagine what Saddam would have thought if he could see his precious palaces now.

It's true that everyone finds their own way, but I don't know anyone out here who doesn't say some type of prayer when they're laying on the floor in the middle of the night, wearing their body armor, and cringing at the thought of what's flying through the air at them.

Thanks for that thought-provoking post.

Yes, weg, and you said it well.

e.craig, that too is well said, and worth remembering – if only we could.

T. I though of you when I was posting this. You are there in the center of creation. There has to be mixed emotions, but you are correct when you put in your own words, "There are no atheist in a foxhole."
