The Navy Chief

The Navy Chief noticed a new seaman and barked at him, "You! Get over here! What's your name sailor?"

"John," the new seaman replied.

"Look, I don't know what kind of bleeding-heart pansy crap they're teaching sailors in boot camp these days, but I don't call anyone by his first name," the chief scowled. "It breeds familiarity, and that leads to a breakdown in authority. I refer to my sailors by their last names only; Smith, Jones, Baker, whatever. And you are to refer to me as 'Chief'. Do I make myself clear?"

"Aye, Aye Chief!"

"Now that we've got that straight, what's your last name?"

The seaman sighed. "Darling, My name is John Darling, Chief."

"Okay, John, here's what I want you to do ...."

Our Bootcamp in CC, BM1 Harris, looked and acted like Bernie Mac.

He would have had fun with that guy.

Most likely, he would have given him a nickname like Bitchboy.

I've worked with some folks from the movie "Catch 22."
One Major who was promoted to Major because his last name was Major... well we couldn't call him Captain Major could we?
There was a Sergeant with the last name "Sergeant" so he had to get promoted to sergeant...but when he went to officer school and came back as a LT is was really confusing calling him LT Sergeant...

Ed, where is boot camp CC? I don’t recognize that one.

Dude, I went to Computer Programming School with a dude fresh out of the Army named Sergeant and he had plenty of stories about being Private Sergeant.

Mala, thanks for stopping by and I love all the Blackadder shows with Rowan Atkinson and Hugh Lauri among others - especially the WWI skits.
