Shame On Georgia

I'm a Red Dirt Georgia Boy, born and bread. I love my state. I love my Southern Hertige. I love GRITS. But sometimes my people can really piss me off.

Yesterday I spent the day working at my local precinct because it was election day. Fourteen hours makes for a long day, especially when you are just reading, talking, walking around wondering were everyone is.

Admittedly, Georgia is set up for early voting and many people take advantage of that feature. But most vote on election day.

Not so much!

With over 2,800 plus or minus voters registered, we had 378 people come in today. What is wrong with your people? This country is in a turmoil and your voice needs to be heard. Are you that fucking lazy? Regardless of what you think, your vote does make a difference. All the totals are made up on one vote at a time. Make yours one of them.

A lady coming through today said she heard on the news that Georgia is 48th in the Nation in voter turn out. I don’t know if that is true or not, but there sure weren’t any souls marching through my precinct.

Sham on you, Georgia.

I hate that. And the people who don't vote are the one's that bitch about things. I don't think you have a right to bitch and moan if you don't vote. Just my 2 cents worth.

This is pretty much the way it was in Augusta. The parking lot at the school looked full but it must have been because of the workers. No one was there when I went through. You know this whole world is in a helluva mess.

I voted and have the sticker to prove it ;) Unfortunately some really good women had to fight for my right to vote, so I consider it my double duty.

I work the polls too.

Voting numbers are discouraging and those who can't get off their butt to go to the polls and vote, have all the time in the world to write and post to blogs and threads.

The voice that is heard is the voter, or should be. Everytime someone quotes a political blogger as an imperical voice on an issue, I wish they'd have to show proof they voted!

Anyway, the thing that encourages me while I work at the polls is the guy who came in to vote the fall 2008 election. He was about 85. He told me he had never voted in his live, but he was going to vote that day and he promised me he would vote every election after till he died. Also, the kids wo come in to vote the first time. Our country is a miracle and voting is what makes it so.

Ticks me off! If you don't vote, then keep your pie hole shut about what you think is wrong.

......and I obviously cannot accurately type!

They probably couldn't read the paper letting them know it was election day.

Apathy. Laziness. My vote doesn't matter. Whatever you call it, it's a shame that people don't take advantage of their right to be heard.

I haven't gone out to vote in years!
I do it through the mail. That came in really handy when I was deployed twice. Too bad I was in Bosnia when we elected our current gov of Calif. My ballot got to me late and got mailed in too late to be counted. I sure didn't vote for Arnold.
