Think the medals demean their recipients. That said, I will always respect those that do their duty, whatever is assigned, to the best of their ability. May well be more to flying drones than we realize.
I do respect all the jobs the guys and gals do in the military, from Ship's Captain to seaman, from Pilot to hanger sweeper, from radio operator to game boy fliers. They all do a job and are part of the well oiled team. And I don't have a problem with giving the gamers a medal equal to a good conduct medal, but nothing that demeans the bravery of the recipients that fight the good fight. Flying a drone from thousands of miles away is not combat. As well trained as they are, they are no more well trained than any other mil type. A cook might get a burn from a pan, but he doesn't deserve a purple heart. But he is still great at his job. IMHO!
Janie, they don't right now. That is what all the brouhaha is all about. DOD wants to give them a medal equal to the Bronze Star and above the Purple Heart. FOR WHAT? They are thousands of miles away playing on a computer.

Didn't know people got medals for that.
